Prismatic Ibis

Sophia's video uses refraction to show an Ibis in a new light.

Seeing Through a Lens

Ezra "focused" his attention on lenses today, using refraction to create distinctive images of 'everyday things' you might see at the lake.

Cool Reflection/ Messing Around

Emery enjoyed making "cool reflections" while "messing around."

It was really fun to reflect the laser beam, but it was hard to stay still enough to hit the mirror.

Knuckles (his cat) thought it was fun, too.  This is by far his favorite of these pictures because of Knuckles' "brightened up" ear and the weird squiggle of light.

He thought this one looks like a "big green galaxy."

This is a picture that he accidentally took and in which he thinks the distorted light looks like a monster from his friend's story.

Here, he started playing around with combining reflected images with 'real' stuff.

A duck eyepatch!

Finally the book, "Comet in Moominland," seen through a kaleidoscope.

Lines, Shapes, and Fingers

After playing with lines of light and creating some interesting light forms, Emery used words he found inspiring in this week's class poem to create his own composition.

Here is a picture of the ceiling with laser light reflecting off of it after being shone through a bottle of seltzer water.

Another picture of the ceiling, this time being illuminated by a flashlight being shone through the bottle of seltzer water.  Also notice the hint of a rainbow (the orange in the center).

"Mr. Skeleton" with a rainbow in his chest--another light pattern made by shining a flashlight through the bottle of seltzer water.

Lines from this week's poem, Summer Sun, by Robert Louis Stevenson inspired this image.
"Yet he will find a chink or two
To slip his golden fingers through"

Our first light art!

Ezra and his family had some fun experimenting with colored lights and the patterns they can make.

And here's a video showing the light in motion (I haven't edited video in years, so I have to read the Adobe Premiere tutorials before I can make it nice and add music and such...so, coming soon...).
